Module Two - Little Wonders

Today we had a disucssion with Module two students about 'little wonders' as starting points for research inquiry.

We talked about the process of module two from

- mapping the field of your proposed research area by looking at the work of others before you, around you (engaging with literature around the subjects that your proposed area of research covers - documenting this in the Literature Review template)

- noticing what questions emerge for you from this preliminary research (reflective journals are great here for noting your thoughts and questions as they arise)

- thinking about how you will explore those questions by reading about research design and methods (go to the module reading list!!)

- thinking about the ethics of the methods you are chosing to use in relation to the area and questions of your research

- considering what you will do with all the data (information) that you will gather - building an understanding of Analysis through reading more about research design (reading list!!)

Those that were a part of the discussion today do share your blog posts on your further thoughts and sharing of your little wonders!!

Mapping your Field - Histories, Influencies, legacies

Following our discussion with Module One students earlier this week I've been thinking more about the questions we spent time with around mapping the field of your practice and identifying influencial people and practices that have contributed to shaping your own.

I made this simple collage to reflect the key influences to my own professional practice, my way of thinking and being in the world. Have a go at something similar yourself, maybe images, maybe a playlist of music, a short piece of choreography would work for you...  This is similar to the thinking around the diagram / artefact you will submit at the end of the module also, so thinking about how you map your field of practice now is good to start the term and see how it evolves for you...

Look them up...  what do you think??

Module One - Seeing your Practice Seeing your Self

Today we had a discussion with Module One students and started the process of unpacking what we feel our Professional Practice to be. We talked about our Practice (what we engage with on a daily basis around our discipline) sometimes feeling quite different from a job title (that is given to us - an imposed identity of sorts). We recognised how our practice can be multiple things and how the skills we learn in different contexts are transferable; working in a supermarket in customer service you might build skills in communication and patience that may be equally valuable in teaching dance to young children, juggling home-life, study, work committments may hone may teach you a lot about time management for example..

Module One is asking you to identify and reflect on key Areas of your past Learning experiences (we refer to these as AOLS) and to engage with three lenses as ways of looking at your practice as you establish yourself within it. The Lenses are introduced in your module handbook with tasks for you to work through to help you actively build your understanding of them. All of this helps you to map the landscape of your professional practice.

Those that were a part of this discussion please do comment here with links to your blogs so that we may continue the conversations with each other -

Meet your Programme Team

Today is the last of our Welcome back activities and you have the opportunity to meet your BAPP ACI programme team. If you attended the Welcome Induction sessions earlier in the week you will know we have expanded our academic team this year and we welcome Dr Pedro De Senna to the team and continue to benefit from Sam's valued contribution to the programme.

At our session today, 1200 (UK) Myself, Sam and Pedro will share our areas of practice-research with you in conversation, giving an insight into what we all do, the artistic approaches we take, where our research is taking us. Hopefully there will be some moments of interest and prompting of questions for you in the discussions we may have with you all moving forward into this term.

You will hear from your Supervisors today also to being to make contact for the term, and should ensure by the end of this week that you have the BAPP calendar dowloaded from UniHub, your Study Plan for this term, and your module handbook for the module you are in now.
